COLOMBO: In recent times, one has heard of bowlers readying their arsenal for Sachin Tendulkar and sometimes Sourav Ganguly, but come Wednesday, there will be an addition to this list. And that will be India’s duplicate little master, Virender Sehwag.
South Africa’s White Lightning, Alan Donald marked Sehwag as the most dangerous Indian batsman right now, and vowed to knock him out as quickly as possible when the teams clash in the first semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Premadasa Stadium.
So, as the two teams battle it out in the day/night game, Donald and Sehwag are expected have a war. And, it will be interesting to see whether Donald would make a duck out of Sehwag or it will be Sehwag who would leave the White Lightning dumb-struck.
That the South African strategy for the game revolved around Sehwag became apparent when Donald admitted at a media briefing this afternoon that Sehwag is the danger man in the Indian team. ‘‘Right now Sehwag is striking the ball very sweetly. We have to find a way to knock him out quickly. The earlier we make him vacate the crease the better,’’ said Donald.
